Native grasslands in Tennessee are disappearing fast

The Native grassland of Tennessee is shrinking at a faster rate than the rest of the country, with many areas losing up to 75 percent of their native grassland by the end of the century, according to a new study.

The study, released Thursday by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), found that about a quarter of Tennessee’s grasslands are gone within the next 50 years.

It is the fastest rate in the country and is happening in a state where about half of the state’s land is now owned by the federal government.

The study also found that in a region with a larger population, like parts of eastern Tennessee and southern Alabama, about two-thirds of the native grasslands of the area are being lost.

The authors said it is “the fastest rate for the state” in a decade.

“These losses are likely due to climate change, degradation and other factors that have caused the natural system to change,” they wrote.

“These changes have been the result of the human activities that have taken place in the past 150 years.”

The USGS also said that the native ecosystems of the region are also being impacted by other human activities like urbanization, development, and industrial pollution.

The new study, published in the journal Nature Climate Change, was the first to examine the impact of habitat loss and the use of fossil fuels on the health of grasslands.

Many native grasses in Tennessee, including oaks and beeches, have been disappearing for centuries due to development and development in their habitats.

Researchers from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and the University at Chattanooga said the decline in native grass species is being driven by a combination of habitat destruction and the development of fossil fuel-fueled energy.

“We’ve seen this with oaks in Tennessee that were lost because of logging,” said David A. Miller, a professor of earth and environmental sciences at the University, and one of the study’s co-authors.

Miller and his colleagues said the research shows that the impact is not limited to oaks alone.

They said that in the future, the researchers predict that a growing number of native grass plants could be lost from the landscape in the region.

The USG study was conducted in conjunction with the Tennessee Department of Natural Resources (TNDNR) and the UF Cooperative Extension in partnership with the Center for Biogeosciences, a research institution in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
